Open Graph Preview: See Your Link Card Before You Share It

Paste your <head>, see the Google, X, Facebook, LinkedIn and Slack cards.

Runs entirely in your browser. Nothing is uploaded, no account needed.

Previews

Paste your tags or fill in the fields to see the cards.

What this does

Your link preview is the entire advertisement for a page, and it is rendered by six different products with six different rules about title length, image ratio and which tag wins. Paste the head you already have, or fill in the fields, and see the cards side by side before the link is in someone's feed.

How to use it

  1. Paste your <head> or fill in the fields

Paste mode reads og:title, og:description, og:image, og:url, og:site_name, og:type, the twitter:* set, <title>, the meta description and the canonical link. Fields mode starts from blank.

  2. Read the warnings

Titles that will truncate, missing image dimensions, a twitter:card that does not match the image, a relative og:image URL that will not resolve for a crawler, and og:url pointing somewhere other than the canonical are all called out.

  3. Copy the tags

The generated block is the minimum correct set: the four required Open Graph properties, the Twitter card fallbacks and image alt text.

Frequently asked questions

Why not fetch my URL and read the tags for me?

Because a browser cannot. A page on this origin is not allowed to read the HTML of another origin, and routing the fetch through a server would mean sending us every URL you test, including staging links behind an obscure hostname. Copying your head into the box costs a keystroke and keeps the tool honest.

What image size should I use for og:image?

1200x630 (1.91:1) is the size every platform accepts and the one to build for. Keep it under 8 MB for Facebook and under 5 MB for X. Below 300x200 most platforms drop the large card and fall back to a small thumbnail. Add og:image:width and og:image:height so the first render is not delayed while the crawler downloads the file to measure it.

How long can the title and description be?

Google truncates titles around 580px of rendered width, which is roughly 60 characters, and descriptions around 155 to 160. X shows about 70 characters of the title. Facebook shows about 88 characters of the description on desktop and far less on mobile. Front-load the meaning: assume everything past the first 55 characters is decoration.

Do I need Twitter tags if I already have Open Graph?

Not for the title, description or image. X falls back to the og: equivalents. You do need twitter:card to choose between summary and summary_large_image, and twitter:site or twitter:creator if you want the attribution line.

I updated my tags and the old preview is still showing.

Every platform caches scraped metadata, often for days. Use Facebook's Sharing Debugger and X's Card Validator to force a re-scrape. LinkedIn has a Post Inspector. Slack and Discord cache per-workspace and generally expire on their own.
