Import Pocket Bookmarks
Pocket shut down in 2025. If you exported in time, the file still works.
Export from Pocket
Find the file you downloaded before the shutdown — search your downloads folder for
pocket,ril_exportorgetpocket.It is either an
.htmlfile or a.csv. Both are read, and the format is detected from the contents rather than the name.If you never exported, the data is gone. Mozilla closed the export window a few months after shutting the service down.
What survives the move
Read off the importer rather than promised in general. The export is Netscape HTML or CSV.
- Titles and URLs
- Tags — written as
TAGS="a,b,c"in the HTML and atagscolumn in the CSV - The date each item was saved, from
time_added - The "Unread" and "Read Archive" headings, as folders
- Read / archived status — no bookmark manager has an equivalent field
- Pocket’s reader copies of articles, which were never in the export
Clean it before you import it
A migration is the one moment when tidying costs nothing — you are touching every link anyway. Run the file through the bookmark cleaner to collapse the duplicates and find the folders holding nothing, or the converter if you want to look at the whole library in a spreadsheet first. Both run entirely in your browser; the file is never uploaded.
Import into Inspistor
Open Settings → Data Transfer in the dashboard.
Drop the file in. Netscape HTML or CSV is detected from the contents, not the file name.
Read the preview before committing. You are told how many links, categories and tags were found before anything is written.
Bring your Pocket library across
Folder structure at any depth, tags where the export carries them, and a searchable archived copy of every page taken on the way in.
Frequently asked questions
How do I export bookmarks from Pocket?
Find the file you downloaded before the shutdown — search your downloads folder for pocket, ril_export or getpocket. It is either an .html file or a .csv. Both are read, and the format is detected from the contents rather than the name. If you never exported, the data is gone. Mozilla closed the export window a few months after shutting the service down.
What do I lose importing from Pocket?
Read / archived status — no bookmark manager has an equivalent field. Pocket’s reader copies of articles, which were never in the export. Everything else — titles and urls, tags — written as tags="a,b,c" in the html and a tags column in the csv, the date each item was saved, from time_added, the "unread" and "read archive" headings, as folders — comes across.
Is there anything to watch out for?
If you have the CSV and the unread/archived distinction matters to you, sort by the status column and save two files before importing. Bring them in separately and they land in separate folders. Once they are merged into one library that information cannot be recovered.
