Privacy policy

The short version

Inspistor stores the links you deliberately save, and the account you save them to. It does not watch you browse, it runs no third-party analytics or advertising trackers, and it does not sell or share your data with anyone. If you want it all deleted, ask on the support page and it is deleted.

What we store

Your account. Your email address, your name, and a hashed version of your password — we never store the password itself and cannot read it. If you completed onboarding, we also keep the two answers you gave about the kind of work you do, because they decide the starter category tree you were given.

The items you save. For each link you choose to save: its title, URL, description, icon, your note, your tags, the category you filed it under, and whether you marked it a favourite. This is the product — it is the only reason the service exists.

Basic account activity. The time of your last sign-in, the time of your last request, and a count of successful sign-ins. This is used to spot unusual access to an account and to know whether the product is being used at all. It is not tied to advertising, it is not sold, and it records nothing about pages you visited.

What we do not do

• We do not track your browsing. Nothing is recorded about a page unless you click save on it.
• We run no Google Analytics, no advertising pixels, no session recorders and no third-party trackers of any kind. There is no cookie banner on this site because there is nothing to consent to.
• We do not sell, rent or transfer your data to third parties.
• We do not use your data to determine creditworthiness or for lending purposes.
• We do not read your saved items to train models or to build a profile of you.

The Chrome extension

The extension holds three permissions, and this is exactly what each one is for:

• activeTab — reads the title, URL, description and icon of the tab you are on, and only after you click the Inspistor toolbar icon. Those are the fields that become the saved item.
• scripting — injects the small reader that collects those fields. It runs on the one tab you acted on, at the moment you acted, and nowhere else. The extension declares no content script and asks for no access to the sites you visit.
• storage — keeps your sign-in token on your own machine so you are not asked to sign in on every save. Clearing it is what the Sign out button does.

The extension talks to one server: the Inspistor API. It contacts no analytics service, no ad network and no third party.

Voice notes.Dictation uses the speech recognition built into your browser. Your microphone is only live while the Record button says Stop. Audio is never uploaded to us and never stored by us — we receive only the text that ends up in the note field, and only when you press save. Note that Chrome itself may send audio to Google's speech service to perform the transcription; that step is Chrome's, governed by Google's privacy policy, and happens before Inspistor sees anything.

The free tools

The tools under /tools run entirely in your browser. Bookmark files, URLs and colours you paste into them are processed in the tab and are never uploaded — those pages have no upload endpoint at all. You can verify it by opening the Network tab, or by using them offline.

Where your data lives, and for how long

Data is held in the Inspistor database on our own server infrastructure, and is kept for as long as your account exists. Passwords are stored only as salted hashes. Traffic to the site and to the API is encrypted in transit over HTTPS.

Deleting your data

You can delete any individual item or category from the dashboard at any time, and that deletion is permanent rather than a soft-delete flag.

To delete your entire account and everything in it, send a request from the support page using the address on the account. We will delete the account, its categories and all of its saved items within 30 days, and confirm when it is done. You may also ask for a copy of everything held against your account, which we will send in a machine-readable format.

Children

Inspistor is a tool for professional work and is not directed at children under 13. We do not knowingly collect data from them.

Changes to this policy

If this policy changes in a way that affects what is collected or how it is used, the date at the top of this page changes and account holders are emailed before the change takes effect. We will not quietly widen what we collect.
